The 2025 APG Annual Meeting and Technical Assistance & Training (TA&T) Forum took place in Tokyo during the week of 25 August, drawing over 400 delegates from across the Asia-Pacific. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Finance Japan and co-chaired by Deputy Vice Minister Mitsutoshi Kajikawa (Japan) and Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney (Australia). In the spirit of collaboration, the APG were also joined by the FATF President, the FATF Executive Secretary, the MENAFATF President and EAG Executive Secretary who shared their experiences and learnings.

Key Highlights:

  • Agreement to the APG’s strategic direction through the Global 5th Round.
  • The completion of the last round with the adoption of the Mutual Evaluation reports for Niue and the Maldives.
  • Panel discussions focusing on strong leadership in AML/CFT and how to succeed in the Global 5th Round.
  • Brunei Darussalam was appointed APG Co-Chair for 2026–2028 and will host the 2026 Annual Meeting.

Japan led a technical seminar on virtual assets and virtual assets service providers sharing key risks and good practices.

The APG also welcomed a new observer: BIMSTEC, recognising its commitment to AML/CFT cooperation in the region.

TA&T Forum

The TA&T Forum featured:

  • Participation from 24 APG members and 15 donors/providers.
  • 29 meetings, including regional and thematic sessions, and direct donor–member engagements.
  • Outcomes included clearer priorities and new agreements for technical assistance delivery in the coming year.
