The APG Secondment Program

The APG Secondment Program is a partnership between the APG members and the APG Secretariat.

APG members agreed to a pilot initiative which is designed to test, learn, and refine, but more importantly, directly support the APG Secretariat to uplift its capacity to complete the Global 5th Round of Mutual Evaluations.

It’s the culmination of a large body of work that has evolved the Secretariat’s talent, workspace and technology frameworks.

As the Secretariat continues to mature and broaden representation to meet members’ needs, the secondee program will provide the APG with early insights, helping to shape a stronger, more impactful program for the future.

About the program

Secondees will join a diverse, international team of experienced AML/CFT practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. Daily collaboration with colleagues from different jurisdictions strengthens analytical skills, broadens perspectives, and supports the exchange of best practices across borders.

Secondees will:

  • Receive hands-on experience with the mutual evaluations' methodology in the Global 5th Round.

  • Gain invaluable multilateral experience working at the heart of international cooperation.

  • Contribute to initiatives that shape the future of financial integrity across the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Enjoy life in vibrant Sydney, one of the world’s most dynamic and welcoming cities.

In return, secondees will develop new professional and personal skills, relationships, confidence and resilience. They’ll bring their learnings back to their sending agency and community to influence the broader system and achieve better outcomes for their jurisdiction.

Ongoing goals of the program are to:

  • increase placement opportunities and options

  • engage secondee alumni to become advocates of the program and mentors for outgoing secondee cohorts

  • expand the pool of nominees

  • open new opportunities for a broader range of APG members and observers.

  •

Skills in demand

Placements depend on matching secondee skills with what is required by the APG Secretariat to fulfil the APG Business Plan. Some of the skills we are looking for are:

  • Mutual Evaluations – members who have been involved in mutual evaluation processes

  • Research and Evaluation – to contribute to Typologies projects and reports

  • Policy Development – to influence and shape AML/CFT policy across the Asia/Pacific region and the wider Global Network

  • Training – facilitating training courses on AML/CFT

  • Technical Assistance – coordinating technical assistance and working closely with donors and providers

  • Leadership development – mentoring/coaching/upskilling peers

  • Engagement/communications – with the FATF Secretariat, other FSRBs and the Global Network

  • Project Management

  •
