A Cambodian delegation led by Senior Minister and Head of Commission on Combating Online Scams H.E. Chhay Sinarith visited the APG Secretariat in Sydney for discussions on strengthening regional responses to online scams, cyber-enabled fraud and related illicit financial flows. The visit brought together representatives from Cambodia’s Commission on Combating Online Scams, the Cambodian National Coordination Committee, and other relevant agencies.
Discussions with the APG Secretariat focused on the FATF and APG priority to develop global and regional responses to cyber-enabled fraud. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of international cooperation, information sharing and strengthening collective efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks. During the visit, the Cambodian delegation shared information on its efforts to combat online scams, including recent policy, legal and operational initiatives. Discussions also explored opportunities for enhanced engagement between Cambodia, APG members and international partners.
APG Co-Chair Lesa Gale welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing cyber-enabled crime:
“We recognise that combating cyber scam frauds is a shared responsibility and cannot fall on the shoulders of any one APG member. The international community must work more closely with Cambodia. Fast-tracked shoulder-to-shoulder collaboration is the key.”
The Cambodia delegation also took the opportunity to meet with Australian agencies, which provided an opportunity to discuss international cooperation and operational responses to take collective action against scam centres. These engagements highlighted the value of continued collaboration and sharing practical experience to address common AML/CFT priorities.
Strong cooperation between jurisdictions supports timely information sharing, strengthens capability, and enables agencies to respond more effectively to emerging threats. The APG remains committed to strengthening trusted partnerships across the region and supporting collaborative efforts to disrupt the criminal networks behind these activities.
